Presentation Techniques

The do's and don'ts of pitching a media report.

Do's

  • Stand up when speaking about your topic, if you stand up and present then the pitch will be less boring, allowing you too include hand gestures and body movements to keep the attention on you.
  • Prepare as much as possible, show that you have done preparation, if there are other people in the group you pitch in, make sure you have gone through your roles to prove you have put a lot of effort in to perform this presentation
  • Possibly film yourself or pitch your presentation in front of your family and friends
  • Include information about the budgeting, schedules, marketing etc.
  • Show passion, you have to convince people in very limited time, show the audience that you care about the project/product so it is a more convincing pitch.
  • Explain what the pitch is about if it not an obvious topic

Don'ts

  • Never go over time, make sure you have delivered your pitch in the time given
  • Don't get lost, make sure your sentences are well structured and that they make sense
  • Don't feel to comfortable if the audience is of people you know, the pitch has to be professional and preformed as if you would in front of anyone else, balance being relaxed and being serious.
  • If you have had a bad past of messing up a pitch, do not let this effect your next pitch
